Following F1/Merc’s release of this POV video of VB driving with the halo, I think I have come up with a genuinely useful secondary purpose...

https://www.facebook.com/Formula1/videos...286167411/

On the *inside* it could be fitted with a small 6-8” monitor, linked up to a rear view camera, interrupted with messages from race control - such as “VSC” or “RED FLAG” perhaps, or telemetry.

Extra weight would be minimal, and we already know the halos are a standard structure plus custom fairings, so the screen would be built intk the fairing - not interfering with the structure itself.

(I also hope we get to see more helmet cam this season. It’s long overdue!)

The rear view camera could even use augmented reality to identify the cars behind, highlighting if one is about to lap you.

I think it’s a winner. I’m going to e-mail Ross...

I know yous guys have already been doing this on separate threads, but I just thought it would be good to see them in the one place.

for the numpties like me could one of you clever clogs perhaps throw up some side by side or overhead shots to be able to compare. I've read some say that the Renault and SF seem similar, if so does that mean well done Renault or not so hot SF?

Cheers guys

It has rake.

Not that I'm surprised, can't see for sure from the angle, but it looks shorter too. Can't wait to see more detailed pictures of it though. Looks relatively tightly packaged too.

Not as painful as it sounds...

I noticed the new Sauber has what looks like a couple of Force India-esq nostrils either side of the nose tip, and RBR have again gone with the large intake on the end of the nose.

From my recollection, radical design ides like this tend to either work and be copied across all teams, or don't and are dropped. But this is now the second season with the RBR intake, and what, 3rd for the SFI nostrils? Yet neither concepts have been copied by Merc (tbc), Ferrari (tbc) or any of the other teams we've seen so far.

Can we come up with any suggestions, or actual insight into why?

Renault release first images of their 2017 car with the integrated halo....wait...what year is it?

Whats there to say...

Nasty garish yellow. I'm not a yellow fan, but last years yellow was a good tone, this I really don't like.

Sauber reveal the C37

Sorry, thats the Williams. Wait....is it?.....no.....

No hiding their halo fairing
[Image: Alfa-RomeoClose_Up_Cockpit_Back2.jpg]
A real number of air intakes around the rollhoop.
But also halfway down the shark fin. Thats a lot of cooling ducts
[Image: AlfaRomeo_front_3_4.jpg]
But those sidepod intakes seem small, or maybe its the fact they look to have a vertical orientation

Going for the biplane look with their sidepod crash structures.

Sorry I don't have PS installed anynore to brighten these images up a bit.

Serious lack of other sponsors. I'd say it was a good livery, it was when they teased it at the end of last season, but seeing that 75% of the cars we've seen so far have been majority white themed, it all a bit samey and lamey. I blame Haas the most for choosing too much white.

Were do we start, well the simplest: That livery, always love the RB testing livery's really wish they would keep them for the season. This blue digital camo is one of the bets yet, with the white sponsor logo's, it's just refreshing. In all honesty liveries are one of the biggest let downs of F1 design, with advancement of graphics and applications such as hydro-graphics, liveries should be magical. Of course while maintaining the brand, which this does, expect for the yellow nose. Good to see bigger presence of Aston Martin, make it seem like a car car, instead of a drink car.

When KTM debuted in MotoGp they rocked up with this
[Image: 001.jpg]
This blew me away, so simple, so bold, clean, that menacing orange streak, fantastic. Come season livery, all coloured in, bland, tired Redbull colour scene.

Anyway.....

No renderings this time, this is the real deal.

Huge amount of fuss for the almost none existent side pods, or cooling. Scrabs note the split lines of the bodywork which would allow for various cooling to be added, he speculates that the shark fin split lines means it could be used for a cooling solution.

It actually has wings, I see them and for some reason I think Su-25 Frogfoot. No link to the barge boards is creating a huge open area to the side pods, can we expect some "flexing" on this area. Although this is just looking at the 'front view' side, angle and on track views show a link from sidepod inlet to the bargeboard.

As Jody called out, the suspension, wish bones angled, all for aero benefit? Could RB be most affected by the new 5mm ride height steering lock to lock regulation? Gained what they could by pushing a higher profiled front suspension rig?

Again floor profiling, are there more slots in the floor than we are used too...

(really wish I could embed a tweet)

From the shadows one could say there is little to no rake, but ofc this is a launch shot. Can we see more when its on track?

Will we get to see the 360 on board footage for the first time from the filing day? 360 cam, little black dome behind the front pitot tube on top of the nose. For some reason I thought the 360 cam was going be on top of the "T-bar".

Its very intriguing, do we see alot of Newey influence this time around? Possibly the suspension profiling?

Damn british weather hiding that diffuser!!

The rake, as expected.

Well, the teams started showing their machines to us for 2018 season.
Not that a fancy look does much to results, but still, admit we all like good looking cars.

What do you guys think about the new 2018 cars?
Yes, we have not seen all, but it started now and lets give us something to talk about...

Oh, and keep that terrible halo out of the discussion if possible. Hate that thing (based on how it looks, weight it does and what it stands for!). If possible. If not, well, let yourself go!

so first proper Paddy Lowe Williams, thoughts? looks pretty good, and at last a painted halo rather than trying to hide the flipflop with a black background
