Anything goes!
Just throw out anything you think may happen in and to the F1 circus in 2018.
Engine Surprises?
Driver trade out?
Overtakes sponsored by?
Crazy season? (erm, minds blank, is that what they call the driver market? Driver contracts anyway)
WDC WCC results?
Lets hear em.
Am I the only one that thought when Alonso was signed up to do 'Daytona' - they presumed it was the Daytona 500 - i.e. NASCAR? It was only when the story went up on Sky today I learned the Daytona 24h is something entirely different. Oops . (I'll be the first to admit my knowledge of motorsport outside of F1 is pretty limited)
On the subject, does anyone know if the race is viewable from the UK
Morning all,
Following a bit of a discussion on the 'What have the teams been upto' story on Sky, I was wondering if anyone has seen any concepts or been part of any discussions about what the race-ready 2018 halos might look like?
There seemed to be a lot of talk last season about how the naked carbon fibre scaffolding-inspired designs won't be representative of what we'll see in Australia, but forgive my cynicism - I just don't see how it can look much different, besides being painted. Let's face it, it's a titanium bar wrapped in CF. Any aero surfaces will surely make it look even chunkier when viewed from above or the sides, and no different from the front.
Per Sky link
Not so sure on that myself, I think he was equally impressive in 2016, just didn't get the rub of the green. As to that sky article, Hamilton is better in every department and would have won this year even if he swapped cars with Vettel.

So teams have given Pirelli data, and indications that the 2018 cars will be 2 seconds a lap quicker... it’s more than believable to me. At the start of other previous rule changes the second season normally saw bigger gains as teams suss the rules out, then contraction as everyone homed in on the optimal design. In fact generally speaking a 2 second a lap bump is actually quite low, and I think we all know the reasons:
1) No monkey seat
2) No Shark fin
3) No T-Wing
And super delux kick in the speed pants... drum roll please...
4) The bloody Halo
Force India are claiming the Halo is adding an extra 14kgs to the car, Haas, Toro Rosso, Renault and Williams have all mentioned similar figures as they try to meat FIA load bearing tests. That’s a lot of weight added to the cars, and a lot of performance taken away. So...
Here’s my prediction...
The big teams were never going to be as badly hit by the aero changes as the also ran teams. They just aren’t. They are also likely to be able to meet the FIA stress tests with less weight too, just as there current front wings do, because, well... they employ the very best material scientists. So, I predict the gap to the also ran teams from the front runners will actually increase rather than retract as has been the case in previous regulation changes. I expect the big teams to be 2 to 2.5 seconds quicker in Melbourne, with the rest between 0.5 to 1 second quicker, and with the lower teams being more aero element limited that gap will actually widen as the season progresses.
I said his times didn’t look good, and essentially his low fuel laps were slower than Stroll, on faster compound tyres to boot, which, well isn’t good:
http://www.thenews.pl/1/5/Artykul/339408...ams-report
So apparently Sirotkin is preferred, so Williams now do need two paid drivers (Kubica brought with him some hefty funding too) because according to Williams sources Di Resta was the quickest out of those in contention, although to be fair Sirotkin is no slouch and deserves a shot at F1. Shame Wehrlein isn’t older, with his talent, and Merc money he’d have been a shoe-in.
Can anyone explain to me the reasoning behind the rule which forces the top 10 drivers to start on the tyres they set their fastest lap in Q2 with, and why not Q3?
Thanks in advance
just the usual trivia from me guys, can't compete with you lot on on the tech side, haha
but I recently seen Damon Hill say to Bottas, that his first 3 team mates were Mansell, Prost, then Senna, and of course when he won his title, he had Villnueve, not that I rate Jacques as highly, and was never a massive fan of Damon, before my time, but, given this and that he probably should be a 2 x WDC, if not for Schumi incident, he's went up a notch or two for me there,
but have any others had such consistently top drivers paired against them? And how do you rate Damon, given this
Hello peeps
Lewis was asked who the top drivers are, now knowing how highly Lewis speaks of Daniel I guess when asked he just had a bit of brain fade, (I suffer from that for different reasons lol)
The Mercedes driver was quoted in Motor Sport Magazine saying: "The four strongest drivers I think are me, Fernando, Sebastian, Max."
"Lewis Hamilton would be "very foolish to underestimate" Daniel Ricciardo in the F1 2018 world championship battle, according to Red Bull team principal Christian Horner."
Now i guess some of us (in no particular order yet) would agree the top 5 are Lewis, Fernando, Daniel, Seb & Max?
Feel free to Add or remove to get your top 5.
Now the question, who do you drop to make the top 4? think I know who Morini might drop lol.
I find it really hard, I believe we are in another golden period of F1.
Any views welcome.
Sauber have shown off a concept livery for 2018 - what do you think?
