I know the old maxim is you make your own luck, and in this sport, F1, that's generally true. Also what goes around normally comes around, we've seen it time and time again, I still think last year Seb's red myst moment in Baku came back to haunt him later on in the season. However, reading Jolyon Palmer's latest article on the BBC, I got to thinking that Bottas really has been monumentally unlucky this season, he really really has, if it really is a case of making your own luck, what the hell has he bloody been up too, and if what goes around comes around expect him to go on a massive winning streak any time soon!!!

Question, do we really think those maxims of "making your own luck" and "what goes around comes around are true", because looking at Bottas, I'm really not sure it's true.

That's what Hamilton will be getting. Is he really worth that much to Mercedes globally? Maybe, but either way that's a HUGE contract.

As can probably be told by my previous posts one of my personal pet peeves with F1 is Christian Horner and his constant moaning about his teams sufferance due to running a weaker engine than Ferrari and Mercedes. (I still want to like him, I really do)

I am the first to admit if Red Bull had either a Ferrari or Mercedes engine I think it would be the best car on the grid, and maybe just maybe Red Bull would dominate. (But then we all know Red Bull would share its Aero secrets with the other teams to make it fairer to all and ensure the competitive nature of the sport!)

However given that many think Mercedes have the best engine (I think that is a debatable point) how do you account for the abysmal performance of the Williams car compared to Mercedes the works team? Sure the drivers at Mercedes are substantially better and its obvious the car is not as good but just look at the differential its enormous.

Then flip over to Renault, how utterly and completely crazy is it that a works team can not just be beaten by a customer team but left literally and figuratively miles behind. Then there is McLaren who are running the same engine who are miles behind Renault.

It just goes to show, indeed prove beyond reasonable doubt that F1 is NOT just about the engines its about a whole host of things (Many of which I have absolutely no idea).

The next time Horner gets on his Orange box about his teams poor engine performance I really wish someone would say to him "Christian, can you imagine how good Ferrari and Mercedes would be with a Red Bull chassis"

Okay I have got that rant of my chest I promise not to mention it for at least another week and in any case I have to find something to badger Forza with!

Purely because of slick tyres painted blue, I'm going to be insanely pissed off the whole of the British GP weekend. It's just so ridiculous when we are never going to see the orange SuperHards tyre used, so just wasting the colour orange and eradicating any confusion.

... who is getting absolutely sick and tired of hearing Charles Leclerc being called the Monegasque driver?

Am I missing something, is this a orgasmic word for some?

I want to strangle Sky's David Croft its several times a race.

Maybe I need another single malt!!!!

Guarantee we'll hear F1 coverage say how teams have a race advantage bringing more of a certain tyre. Fact is, come the end of Qually, they will all have the same amount of tyre left. One new of the Hardest and medium compound.

(Ill update when F1 does...)

3rd DRS will be added between T1 + T3. All three will have a separate detection zone. Might help with your overtaking fear Jody.

Expect lap times blitzed. Damn, sub 60s?  : O ...........nah......or maybe......

Austria should be interesting, It's a super short lap. 10 corners(apprently): T3 slow, T1+4 medium, T2+5+6+7+8+9+10 fast (maybe final one med-fast).

Where have Merc excelled at, fast corners. Riccard final sector was all quick flowing corner, that is where Merc had a huge advantage. Spain, fast corners. Only the fact its a short lap will bring the other into play, but that might also help Merc temp control. Ferrari will be close, but not close enough for pole. Race pace, maybe a repeat of last year, a very close chase, but no wheel-to-wheel.

So, I know we have a few McLaren fans on here, myself included. What would you do to try and turn the tide?

I'll kick it off by saying that Middle Eastern investment has killed the team, not helped it. The biggest blunder was to oust Ron (he *was* McLaren for much of the era I've been watching) and put in an American with no clue. Bouliier has to go as well, the guy has to stand up and be accountable.

I'd like to see someone like Ross Brawn go in there and tidy the mess. Bring in Adrian Newey to turn it around on the technical side. He's coming to the end of his career and to turn a flailing Brit team around and get it back to winning ways would be a fantastic fanfare.

So, what would you guys do?

https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/136898...th-leclerc

"Ferrari is ready to replace Kimi Raikkonen with rising star Charles Leclerc in its Formula 1 driver line-up for 2019, Autosport has learned."

"Autosport understands that Ferrari considered replacing Raikkonen with current Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo, who is out-of-contract at the end of 2018.
It ultimately decided that the cost of hiring the Australian would be too high when combined with Vettel's existing salary.
That left it with a choice between Raikkonen, who is still Ferrari's most recent world champion but is yet to win a race since rejoining the team in 2014, and Leclerc, who is contesting his rookie F1 season with Sauber."

A final decision has not been made but Ferrari is understood to be leaning towards promoting Leclerc to a race seat.

He would be its first graduate to make it to a Ferrari F1 race seat.

So, Red Bull announced what most thought would happen they have dropped Renault and moved on to Honda for 2019, However is it a good move or is it a risk?

One cannot doubt the immense technical abilities of Honda but four seasons down the road and they are still quite a way behind. Their power numbers are up this season for sure but there is no real track record of reliability.

Will this make Daniel Ricciardos decision any easier to stay or go (I would insert the Clash here if I could)?

Does this open up an opportunity for a new team in F1 supplied by Renault?

What does this mean for the rest of the year, will Renault bother to continue to fully support the Red Bull team?

I thought the move was inevitable, I think Red Bulls treatment of Renault over the last few seasons has been less than respectable.

Its a bold move that has boom or bust written all over it for me. I am not a fan of Red Bull, but I do like both their drivers but as a fan of the sport I have to hope its a move that at least keeps them up there with Mercedes and Ferrari.
