Again via Teds notebook today he is reporting that rumour on the paddock (as opposed to street!!) is that Toro Rosso will go after Wehrlein and Kvyat for the drivers seats next year.

I would like that!

Toto Wolff recently suggested that teams should be allowed to enter three cars in a race I am wondering what you guys think of that.  To me I like the idea because it will put more cars on the grid, gets more drivers involved in F1, and that to me at least will make it more interesting and accessible.

I do see a potential downside that the likes of Ferrari and Mercedes and quite possibly Red Bull could afford it much more than the other teams in racing so it could lead to a more dominating effect. Plus a team running three cars naturally from a  tactical point of view will have more potential to control a race more than a team that can only afford to run two cars.

I do like the suggestion that the third car should be driven by a young driver in one of the teams driver programs. In fact why stop at one driver maybe various drivers could share the seat during the year to gain experience.

I am certain the Esteban Ocon situation has brought this idea to the fore, the idea a driver of that talent could be out of F1 next season is both a joke and in my eyes unacceptable and bad for the sport. Many people say because he is  Mercedes driver he is not welcome in other teams and I do understand that. That said why should a team sponsor and support a driver through his early career and then just have to let him go?  To me I would have targeted Daniel Ricciardo for the second seat and if that failed (as it did, if indeed they tried) I would have put Ocon in the seat ahead of Bottas as unfair as that may seem to some

It would be a sensational development, but reports have emerged that Toro Rosso are considering approaching Michael Schumacher's son, Mick, as a replacement for Pierre Gasly, who will drive alongside Max Verstappen in the senior Red Bull car next season. 


Helmut Marko recently claimed that he had a shortlist drawn up of 10 potential drivers who could conceivably replace Gasly at the development team in 2019.
There is also the potential that two seats will be available, given Marko's lukewarm response to Brendon Hartley's difficult drives so far, in which he has suffered a number of DNF's. 
Names thought to be on the list include the likes of Esteban Ocon, whose position at Force India appears precarious, and Stoffel Vandoorne, recently replaced at McLaren by rookie Lando Norris. 
But Motorsport reports that Schumacher's name has emerged following an eye-catching run of results in Formula 3, where the 19-year-old has taken the chequered flag in six of the last ten races.

He requires 20 Super License points in order to be granted the right to compete in Formula 1, and needs a podium finish in Formula 3 in order to achieve this goal, something that looked unlikely until his recent prolific run of victories. 
As things stand, he is in the hunt to win the championship and barring disaster is almost certain to finish within the top three, leading to the alleged interest from Toro Rosso and Marko. 
Having Schumacher Jnr on a team in F1 is regarded as an obvious coup for the teams waiting for him to develop through the ranks, and although it seems likely that Mick will compete either in Formula 3 or Formula 2 next season, reports suggest that Red Bull could be looking to tie him down for 2020 or beyond. 
But with the amount of driver movement taking place this summer nothing can be written off, and if Schumacher were to triumph in Formula 3, it could prompt Red Bull into making an unlikely move for next year.

This weekend's Singapore Grand Prix marks the return of the proper downforce battle in Formula 1 – after the low-drag challenges of Spa and Monza.

The formbook for the weekend remains unclear at the moment, with Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull all having a decent claim about coming out on top around the Marina Bay street circuit.

Red Bull will be buoyed by its dominant form around Monaco earlier this year, while Ferrari has shown itself to have a quick car at all types of circuit.
And while Mercedes may not he heading there feeling it is favourite, its brilliant execution of races this year has been key to its world title ambitions.

What has been particularly interesting this year, however, is that despite the closeness of the fight at the front, the top three teams have approached the season with different concepts – which is highlighted in their varied rake and wheelbases.

Toro Rosso has never been a team afraid to do something different, and the Italian Grand Prix highlighted a design lead that has helped its straightline speed performance.

Like sister team Red Bull, Toro Rosso has been well aware that the power deficit it suffers means it has to do all it can with its wings to try to help boost its straightline speed performance.

While it did not go as aggressive as Red Bull in terms of the levels of downforce it ran at Monza, the team again opted for a unique DRS design element that has played a key part in helping keep it in the fight this year.

The DRS pod actuator (arrowed) is different to other teams in that it features a bespoke arch underneath it. Here is an example of a solution that is more commonly used elsewhere.

McLaren suspects Lando Norris would have been picked up by Red Bull’s junior team Toro Rosso had it not promoted him to a Formula 1 race seat in 2019.

Norris will make his grand prix debut when he partners Carlos Sainz Jr at McLaren next season.
He was linked with Toro Rosso earlier in the year but McLaren was not keen to relinquish its protege and Red Bull did not want to sign another team’s driver on loan.

McLaren F1 team CEO Zak Brown said: “We knew he would've been snapped up by another team.
“But we were ultimately always on a kind of ‘around the summer break’ timeline, so we weren't pressured by that, or didn't make any decision driven by that.
“We were fully aware that if he wasn't going to drive for us next year, he'd be driving for someone else.”

Asked if that was Toro Rosso, Brown said: “I assume it would be Toro Rosso.
“I think based on the phonecalls I got, more than one team was interested in him.”

This picture pretty much sums up why this is my favourite F1 weekend. The start of Autumn, cosy nights drawing in, f1 cars tearing around a track in the heart of a city, that is full of great architecture, new technological projects, yet all shrouded in lush gardens and green. FP1 is great, as the sun is setting, yet FP2 my most favoured session of the whole year. I really like the track also, in the game its great to drive and one where I'm consistently competitive, and give those wheelers a run for their monies.
