Toto Wolff has confirmed Lewis Hamilton will sign a new deal with Mercedes that could run for five years.

The Briton's current contract with the Silver Arrows covers him through to the end of next year's championship, meaning an extension would take him up to 2027.

Hamilton jointly holds the record with Michael Schumacher for the most number of F1 titles with seven but has been out of the running this season due to an uncompetitive W13 limiting his chances with Mercedes to challenge.

The 37-year-old is the second-oldest driver on the grid behind Fernando Alonso but Wolff has stated Hamilton is set to drive well into his 40s.

"Over time, we have grown together. We are totally transparent, we talk about the future also," Wolff told Channel 4 in an interview released during the Singapore Grand Prix weekend.

"Lewis will be the first to say 'I can't do this anymore because I feel like I don't have the reactions any more or I have lost fun doing it and there is another generation growing up that is very strong'.

"So I have no doubt that whenever we agree on a contract extension - which is going to happen - that we will both discuss very openly 'What does the future hold?'

"The advantage is we speak a lot together.

"Just last week we sat down and he says ‘Look, I have another five years in me. How do you see that?’"

Personally I think a LOT will depend on Mercs future performance, especially next years car.... cant see him signing a 5 year deal IF they cant hand him a title winning car, as much as I dislike the lad, I really hope he doesnt do a Rossi and continues just for the sake of continuing.

Respect your comment Forza I know you hate him like I hate Verstappen. Your comment about the car could be relevant but I have it on good authority that if Mercedes cannot get a competitive car there is an agreement in place to transfer his contract to Ferrari. There your lifelong dream ( Nightmare Smile ).

This is good news for Hamilton and British driver fans I may be looking at this through somewhat tinted glasses but honestly my heart tells me this man is still more than capable of delivering a drivers championship in the right car and even for the next 5 years.

I like others am waiting with bated breathe (not) to see what punishment is handed out to Red Bull. I will be utterly shocked if it is anything of consequence. I think even more level headed people than me recognize the treatment this team and its drivers get is very different to other teams.

At no time during the season have I given up on Hamilton.

At no time of this season have I ever thought there is a better driver on the grid than Hamilton.

At no time of the season have I ever thought he is close to giving up the sport.

I like to think I am a reasonable and fair minded person, always open to discussion on points and I have always been willing to admit when I am wrong. I apply that to all aspects of my life of which sport is a very large part of it. When it comes to F1 my weakness is Red Bull because as is obviously evident I pretty much hate, despise and loathe the whole team.

I cannot believe the verbal diarrhea I am reading and listening to.  During the race commentary from Sky yesterday Croft referred to the battle between Hamilton and Verstappen as two great champions of F1 doing battle. The only thing he got right in that statement was the fact they have both won championships. I will fiercely argue that Verstappen is not fit to hold Hamilton's jock strap (I defer to Forza as to if he wears one!) as a driver. I am not going into details why.  I think that you guys are all knowledgeable and although you will have your independent views on the subject and fanhood bias frankly if you think different to that I will politely say you are an idiot and just agree to disagree. I accept you have that right, after all this is America the Banter.

Reading various posts on the subject of F1 around the internet is a microcosm of our world today. Stupid, inane and inaccurate and filled with fan biased views which it seems many people are ready to kill to ram down peoples throat. I know fans will be fans but really. Apparently Verstappen's Championships are down to the driver whilst Hamilton's championships are because of a dominant car. You get the gist of where I am going. I would hope we all know on here despite where we stand you need both to win at this level of racing. Yes a driver can make a big difference but without the car he is not winning Championships.

I do not want this to be all about my hatred of Red Bull. On the surface of it Verstappen absolutely deserves his Championship but that does come with the caveat of the fact nobody will probably ever know the truth about what Red Bull got away with in 2022. You all know my opinion of 2021, which with this new information about the season puts an even larger question mark/asterisk against the result. Hamilton was totally screwed out that Championship. No doubt about it.

The whole way F1 is being run is a disgrace. It is deceitful, unfair and incompetent. What will happen next season?  The punishment has not been announced as yet but we all know it will insignificant, it will not punish and take away the advantage Red Bull has gained on the field and furthermore I would bet we will never know the facts.  I wonder if anyone has thought about what their budget report for 2022 will say?

I want someone to go to court with this.  Do I think anyone will. No I do not.  If I am Mercedes or Ferrari (in particular) I spend what the heck I want next season and throw the gauntlet down to the FIA. Do I think they will? Again, no but they should.

Lewis Hamilton has officially received Brazilian citizenship at a ceremony in the country’s capital, Brasilia.

The seven-time former World Champion was first linked with becoming a citizen of Brazil after winning last year’s grand prix at Interlagos, his third victory at the venue where he also captured his first Drivers’ title in 2008.

That suggestion was made by congressman Andre Figueiredo after Hamilton held a Brazilian flag behind him on the podium, his love for the country having stemmed from his childhood admiration for Ayrton Senna.

The Mercedes driver attended the Chamber of Deputies in Brazil to receive his honorary citizenship.

Lewis is a cool brother.    Cool

LEWIS HAMILTON shared heart-warming photos after making his brother's "dream come true" by helping him drive the Mercedes simulator.

Nicolas Hamilton, who has cerebral palsy, became the first disabled person to drive the sim.

Hamilton never has and never will get much credit for what he does off track. It is hard enough for many to acknowledge his on track achievements. This is his brother so in my mind it is not as significant as if it were a none family member. However to me he does a lot of good in life and is a very likeable if a little off beat person. I wish more famous and well financed individuals did more for average and disadvantaged people.
