Valtteri Bottas topped the second and final morning of the Barcelona Formula 1 test for Mercedes.
Bottas hit the front half-an-hour into the session, and later consolidated his position by setting his best lap of the morning using soft compound Pirellis.

But Ferrari's Antonio Giovinazzi, who drove for Sauber yesterday, then knocked him off top spot with 20 minutes of the morning remaining with a lap of 1m16.972s on hypersofts.

Bottas then reclaimed the position by 0.068s five minutes later using supersofts, with his time of 1m16.904s not subsequently beaten.

Kevin Magnussen was third for Haas, 1.370s off the pace using hypersofts.

Lando Norris, who drove the Pirelli test McLaren yesterday but moved into the team's own car today, finished fourth. He posted a best time 1.923s off the pace using medium rubber, with his best time also coming in the final hour.

Jack Aitken, making his F1 testing bow for Renault, was fifth quickest and just 0.115s slower than Norris after using ultrasofts to post his time in the last hour.

Sauber's Charles Leclerc was sixth fastest using hypersofts, lapping just half a tenth slower than Aitken.

Robert Kubica claimed seventh with 11 minutes remaining using hypersofts, relegating Force India driver Nikita Mazepin, who set his time on softs in the closing minutes of the session, to eighth.

All of this meant Stoffel Vandoorne, in the Pirelli test McLaren, was relegated from sixth to ninth place in the final hour of the morning.

Jake Dennis had his first public taste of a Formula 1 car for Red Bull to augment his simulator work for the team.

He previously tested a McLaren behind closed doors in 2013, and this morning concentrated on running the medium tyre.

Sean Gelael returned for a second day in the Toro Rosso, ending up 11th using soft rubber, ahead of Nicholas Latifi.

Latifi drove Force India's regular car yesterday, but switched to Pirelli test duties in its second machine today.

Been keeping an eye on both Giovinazzi and Norris these past two days. I'm impressed. Solid laps, and consistently fast.

And Bottas is doing the softer tyre testing today, so clearly Mercedes are checking out a lot of stuff it would seem. Also interesting that at the first in season test they choose to have both of their race drivers do the test. Shows they're really pushing hard.

I know its testing, but not too thrilled to see the old spec being run.

Hesh, isn't that McLaren being used in the Pirelli test? IF so then it will have been Pirelli WHO requested that spec as they will have more baseline data on it to run the numbers against their test.

Bottas, like Hamilton performed 2 full race sims, and that's impressive. Four full race sims, plus a few extra laps, in two days, not problems. Rumoured to be running the Mk.II Mercedes 2018 PU. Hearing the car looked quicker than at the weekend through S3. Does anyone have sector times from these tests?
