Golden! When cars could follow close without majorly screwing their own race. A rare Senna mistake behind a backmarker too. Our Nige was worth the entry fee for sure. Tell me when we'll next see that kind of action at a circuit like the Hungaroring (or any circuit for that matter)? Never - that's when.

Morini, obviously part of it is the aero packages on these cars, but a great chunk is ground effect. You can certainly see why many F1 aficionados want to bring it, and active suspension back. Make them standardised components, the same for everyone to cut out silly price / development wars and go racing.

Hi Lotus, quite a man Colin Chapman, in many ways a bit of a Adrian Newey of his day, genius, ruthless & a driven will to win, at any cost, quite a character too.
Remember he punched a copper? 1965
https://www.britishpathe.com/video/VLVAC...ITISH+CARS
"POLICE AT HAARLEM, HOLLAND, TODAY (MONDAY) RELEASED BRITISH RACING CAR CHIEF, COLIN CHAPMAN, WHO HAD BEEN DETAINED FOUR NEARLY 24 HOURS AFTER A SCUFFLE WITH POLICE AT SUNDAY'S DUTCH GRAND PRIX.
THE PUBLIC PROSECUTOR ORDERED CHAPMAN TO BE FREED AT THE PRIVATE HEARING, BUT RULED THAT HE MUST APPEAR BEFORE A MAGISTRATE TOMORROW TO ANSWER A CHARGE OF ASSAULTING A POLICEMAN.
IT WAS REPORTED THAT CHAPMAN, OWNER-DESIGNER OF THE INTERNATIONALLY FAMOUS LOTUS RACING CARS, TOLD THE PROSECUTOR HE DEFENDED HIMSELF WHEN HE WAS PUSHED BY A POLICEMAN AS HE TRIED TO REACH THE PITS FOR THE GRAND PRIX AT NEARBY ZANDVOORT. HE SAID HE FELL OVER STRAW BALES AFTER THE PUSH. POLICE DENIED CHAPMAN'S VERSION OF THE INCIDENT AND SAID THERE WAS NO QUESTION OF HIS BEING PUSHED.
ACE BRITISH RACING DRIVER JIM CLARK, WHO DROVE A LOTUS TO WIN THE GRAND PRIX, MISSED GETTING HIS PRIZE IN THE CONFUSION WHICH FOLLOWED THE INCIDENT. DUTCH RACE OFFICIALS SAID IT WOULD BE POSTED TO HIM.
CHAPMAN WAS BROUGHT TO HAARLEM FROM ZANDVOORT, WHERE HE SPENT THE NIGHT IN A POLICE STATION, FOR TODAY'S HEARING BEFORE THE PUBLIC PROSECUTOR."
Then more famously the DeLorean affair.
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/motors...apman.html
"Perhaps Chapman's darkest hour came in 1978, when Lotus linked up with the American tycoon John Z DeLorean to develop a stainless steel sports car, to be built in a factory funded by the British government. What the government did not know, but what Chapman certainly did, was that the project was a scam."
"Around £10 million went missing. Chapman died before the full deceit unravelled but at the subsequent trial of Fred Bushell, the Lotus accountant, the judge insisted that had Chapman himself been in the dock he would have received a sentence of at least 10 years".
Like I said earlier, I like a character & Colin Chapman in my view will be remembered as one of the great men of the sport, all of the silly stuff will be forgotten but the achievements of the great man will live on forever.

As my very erudite grandfather said, "Chapman is a cad and a bounder, but a bloody good engineer". He was probably right on both counts. Totally changed the nature of F1, and deserves to be fondly remembered for that.

And was behind some great road cars also (well ahead of their time). Back when Great Britain had a car industry. Genius isn't too strong a word.
Yes his cars were very pleasing on the eye, brought us in to the workd of motorsport to compete with the Bosch and Italians. I must say i found it a interesting watch i also like how Frank Williams came about in his documentary all good in their own right
