Kubica no longer in the frame for Williams drive
#31

I'm with Hesh on this one. RK's injuries were just too severe to make a full comeback feasible. Real shame because what was said about him wasn't just the usual media hype. The other drivers all knew he was the real deal and many of them said as much.

Robert Kubica says he is ready to complete a full grand prix weekend as the prospect of him getting a Formula 1 call-up with Williams this season looms.

"I feel ready because otherwise I would not sign a contract with Williams for this year," he said.
"So it's on my desk that, 'You have to keep being ready and in case something happens, you have to step up'.
"Of course, it is not easy when you have to drive against the top drivers in the middle of the season.
"Although I have some opportunities to drive the car, you still lack experience, but you have to do it.
"I also think when Williams approached me for this role, they also have no doubts that I can do it. But what's happening currently and a lot of speculation is not affecting myself.

"I'm doing my job and then what the future will bring, we will see."

While speculation suggests the driver merry-go-round could kick in for next weekend's Italian Grand Prix, it is understood that would be too short notice and the Singapore Grand Prix in mid-September is more likely.

Feeling bad for Ocon he is a real victim in the shake up and does not deserve to out of a drive. I wonder if Haas would consider him, I have previously thought not because of his Mercedes ties but I want to see him on the grid he is a great prospect.

How can a driver like Ocon be out of a drive, while someone like Ericsson is still around?

I stumbled across this, from a suggestion by someone else, and, yeah, yeah, can he still do it. Nevertheless, pretty cool vid, 7 min clip Smile

Robert Kubica has suggested Williams’ problems could have eased in 2018 had they listened to the drivers straightaway.

Kubica understands why there are doubters.

Robert Kubica says he understands why people remain doubtful about his ability ahead of his Formula 1 return because he would also have doubts if he was a team boss.

Next March, eight years after the rally accident that almost severed his right arm, Williams signing Kubica will end an absence from the F1 grid stretching back to 2010.

The Pole, who will be 35, tested for Renault and Williams in 2017 as he eyed a 2018 drive but had to settle for a Williams development role for this season, which he has turned into a 2019 race seat.
Kubica said he has heard for "many years [that] people struggle to believe that I can do it" but accepts why that is the case.

"If I would be a team principal I would also have doubts," said Kubica.

"This year has been very useful because the first meeting, I remember, I said 'If you have any doubt, we shouldn't be doing it, because in difficult times it's easy to point the finger on my arm – I want to make sure that you are sure that I can do it'.

"First of all I have to be sure that I can do it, that's why I'm here, but second of all the team has to be convinced that I'm able to do a job."
