Several Formula 1 drivers may have to take part in pre-season testing without the use of a crash helmet that has been homologated to the FIA’s 2019 safety standards...

So should they participate, would it not incur a break of rules, therefore penalty?

No Hesh. Testing is not a competitive event, and nor is it a mandated event. Pretty certain the rules for testing events are very different to race weekends. So I'd actually be surprised if helmet regulations were included in the guidelines for testing events. He'll, the cars don't even need to run to regulations, so I doubt helmets do.

It would be a bit of a waste of time testing a car which was not within the regs though? I suppose you could test stuff currently ileagal but legal in future.Doubt that would ever happen in winter testing though as teams are focussed on Melbourne.

Williams has abandoned plans to give its 2019 Formula 1 car a shakedown in Spain this weekend, because it is running late with its build plans.

Tight for Renault as well.

You're right Papa, McLaren, Ferrari, RBR and others have all run with parts that weren't going to be legal in the regulations that year. Sometimes they do it purely for correlation purposes, say for old parts that are illegal now compared with new parts that the teams aren't sure what effect they'll have. Although beyond that Morini is right, it doesn't serve any useful purpose. I take it we've all seen James Allisons first fully fledged Merc? There's a difference and they have some weird appendages on the sidepods and although you can't see it properly in the head on pictures their rear suspension looks like the rods are high up, and done so for aerodynamic effect. Interested to see the Ferrari and RBR now, because the Merc looks very different to the other cars we've seen in details.
Wow, the Mercedes website has crashed, it's like they've had a DDoS attack.
think there's a lot of interest around their new car.

*Moved Merc related car reveal to 2019 reveal thread*
Renault I can maybe understand stating they have some timing fears, as they were pushing up till the last race in 2018. For Williams, though, to not be able to make the planned milestones after surely abandoning 2018 so early, really emphasises their problems, both financial and technical correlation. The early filming day/shakedown would've give them earlier answers.

Hi, it says on SKY they are showing Test 1, any idea if they are broadcasting test 2 as well?
Deciding whether to restart my SKY Sports package early, (through Virgin) annoys me I have to get all the sports package when I only want F1.
Even better, anyone sussed a free way to watch testing yet?
I'm hanging out for my F1 fix so if I have to I'll bite the bullet & pay SKY Rrrrr lol
