F1 needs teams to "collaborate on improving tracks" - Abiteboul.
Renault Formula 1 team boss Cyril Abiteboul believes that the sport should put more focus on designing tracks to create better racing.
Abiteboul says his engineers have looked at how alternative layouts at Paul Ricard could have created a better race this year, following the criticism of the dull French GP.
The F1 organisation has already made efforts in-house to optimise circuit layouts, and its head of vehicle performance Craig Wilson, who previously worked at BAR, Honda, Brawn and Williams, has been closely involved in the Vietnam and Miami projects.
However, Abiteboul says that the teams can offers extra resources, and perhaps pinpoint potential changes to existing venues.
"One thing I think we need to do a bit more is engineer the tracks," he told Motorsport.com. "I would prefer a bit less over-engineering of the technical regulations, and a bit more engineering of the track layout, rather than investing into 20 cars that should be different every year.
"I would maybe change one or two corners, at each track. it would be much more cost efficient, and much better for the sport.
"I know that they have put a lot of engineering effort into Vietnam. But it's something where we could all collectively think what would be good for F1?"
Abiteboul says that Paul Ricard has provided an interesting case study at Enstone: "To give you an example, because it's a race that's obviously important to us, the French GP.
"There was some tough criticism after the race, because it turned into a procession. We tried to make it a bit interesting towards the end, and were penalised for that!
"So what we've done is some simulations of alternative configurations of how to make it more interesting. I would like to see more getting together from the teams in engineering some solutions and some improvements for the tracks.
"If 10 teams were to collaborate on improving tracks I'm sure we could come up with some fantastic results, and we don't need to wait for 2021 for that. That would be next year already."

Silverstone confirms date change for 2020 British GP. (GP Fans)
Silverstone has revealed that next year's British Grand Prix will be held on July 19, the race moving back in the 2020 Formula 1 calendar.
This year's race was held on July 14, and the change of spot may be down to Baku's street race seeking a summer slot, having featured in April the last two seasons.

I am glad to see it will remain and it makes a lot sense as the track is where so much testing is done. Its a tough track to overtake but it always seems to bring something to the table (and no I am not talking Paella here!)
It pretty much looks like the German GP will not be on next years schedule and that bothers me. The country greatly contributes to the F1 show and I think things like that deserve consideration as well as how much money they will pay. Hugely ironic that Liberty will run a Dutch GP and lets be honest here its just because of the interest in Verstappen, yet they can write off Germany home of the current world champions without a thought!

Bloody hell, dont let Morini hear you saying that
Personally I am not a fan of the Barca circuit (for f1 anyway) but agree a race in Germany should be kept at all costs.

A 22 race calendar, with discussion around "saving" the German GP as well. It's insane if you ask me. They're still expecting them to do all this on only 3 engines as well. Something has to give. Some of those races don't even deserve the title "race" either, far too much filler in that calendar.

Ferrari boss confirms change to F1 qualifying format in 2020.
Liberty Media have previously been reported to have investigated adding a sprint race to the F1 calendar, as is held in
Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto says teams have agreed to hold an additional race on Formula 1 weekends from next year, which will impact on qualifying.
Although F1 is yet to confirm any changes to the race weekend programme, Binotto says all teams have agreed to the major change.
Asked if he was in favour of experimenting with a 'mini race' to decide qualifying on Saturdays, Binotto told Gazzetta dello Sport: "All the teams said yes. Including us. Therefore in 2020 it will be done."
Looking further ahead of 2021, when Liberty's regulation shake-up will come into force, Binotto suggested that finding common ground on the technical rules to be drafted is still to be found.
"Two concepts must be clear," he said. "F1 must remain a platform where technological competition exists.
"This is the only reason why Ferrari invests in it. We don't like any attempt to make the cars all the same. Standard parts can create reliability problems, such as clutch in F2.
"It must also remain a discipline in which the best wins. Trying to mix the cards is wrong. Ours is not a show, it is a sport.
"The regulation that we will vote in October will be the starting point for continuing to discuss and improve."
