Wolff linked with Carey’s F1 CEO role after 2020.
Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has been tipped as a potential successor to Chase Carey as Formula 1’s CEO once his current contract with the Silver Arrows expires.
According to RaceFans.net and their sources, Wolff is reportedly considering his future with Mercedes as the team principal.
His current deal runs until the end of the 2020 season, the same time as Carey’s contract as CEO and chairman of Liberty Media is also due to expire.
There is due to be a changing of the guard at Mercedes, with current CEO Dieter Zetsche set to step down at the end of May and replaced by Ola Källenius, a strong supporter of electric cars and Mercedes’ entry into Formula E in 2020.
The departure of Zetsche and the imminent arrival of Källenius, with Wolff’s relationship with the latter said to be not the most healthy, are the reported possible factors in the 47-year-old Austrian considering his future.
RaceFans have also reported that Wolff’s 30 per cent stake in the team, along with Niki Lauda’s 10 per cent share, is subject to a pull option which would allow Mercedes to reacquire the total 40 per cent.
Carey was due to step down as CEO at the end of the 2019 season, but signed a 12-month extension to help with the transition towards the new regulations coming into effect in 2021.
Carey is expected to remain part of the picture as chairman post-2020, which has created a possible job opportunity for Wolff.

I think the prospect of Toto leaving Mercedes is more than just F1's future vision. It has massive implications for Mercedes, Lewis, all sorts of things. Including yes,vthe future of F1.

Havent't managed to get on here for a while for various reasons, but this little snippet came up on my phone news feed as well. Bit of a shocker, but I have a gut feeling Mercedes won't be in F1 much longer. toto to move on, new bloke to pull the plug in favour of Formula duracell
Hopefully Hammy won't renew at the end of this contract and I'm hoping he gets a swansong gig with the red team.

I do not see it happening Wolff has a lot of money tied up in Mercedes racing. I dont think Mercedes are going anywhere away from F1 anytime soon either.
This move towards electric powered cars (Not Formula E but every day vehicles) amuses me greatly so many countries making moves to go all electric but given that most countries are running at almost capacity where is all that new power. Can you imagine the demand on the power grid when everyone goes to plug their car in at night... OMG laughable.
So, electric cars are important but Formula E is not going to supplant F1 for many many years!

Firstly Mercedes have buy back options on Wolff's shares that he can't stop, so if Mercedes wanted him out he'd be gone.
But yeah otherwise I think it's unlikely. As to electric cars you're right NeilP, at some point the world has to realise we need nuclear power to solve the current issues we have, 4th and fifth gen reactors are basically renewable energy.

Yeah I think I read something about this....its the same with Niki isnt it?
edit just checked...TW 30% (although some suggesting he acquired a further 10%) and Niki 10% shares, Merc do indeed have buy out options.
