Truth is the Mercedes didn't look good on low fuel runs in winter testing, at first, and the at first bit is important. I think Mercedes week 1 and the start of week 2 were a bit concerned, lets be clear on the heavy runs like I said at the time there was clear evidence they had a good car, and often matched the Ferrari's long run pace, but never beat it. Then on the penultimate day I think it was Lewis came out of the garage straight away and did a full race stint that was blistering. I'm sure I said so at the time, lap after lap he was doing race pace times we'd not seen others get close to. Then he strapped on a new pair of C3's for some low fuel runs and was quick. This was after they brought the second new front wing and changed the height on the rear suspension. I think they had issues. Ferrari on the otherhand had no problems the car didn't seem to be lacking anywhere and let's be clear, on race pace this years Ferrari blows last years Ferrari away, in every respect. So Ferrari have a hard task ahead of themselves, "make it go quicker" isn't as easy as say, "I'm getting under steer snapping to over steer in medium corners" like Mercedes were having. I think the Mercedes issues were clear, and as such their engineers had simple targets to aim for, Ferrari's issues will be baffling them... make it quicker isn't as easy as it sounds if the flaws aren't evident, and they're not.

I don't agree with any of this, but everyone knows (by now) what I think of winter testing conclusion jumping. High fuel / low fuel / medium fuel, it makes no difference! Mercedes go about their business quietly learning what they need to learn without giving *anything* away to anyone. It is their modus operandi FFS, they do it every testing session. You say Lewis did some quick runs towards the end of testing, well maybe they were quick(ish) but something tells me that was nowhere near the real potential of that car at that point in time. You don't go from barely able to match pace with ferrari to trouncing them by near a second at the same circuit in just a couple of months. The media and pundits fall for this every single year without fail.

Regarding the handling comments, from what I am seeing on board the Ferrari looks by far the most compliant car on track compared to the Mercedes which appears a right handful (well Hamiltons has looked right on the edge all weekend). From the pictures I've seen the Ferraris look mostly much easier to drive. I agree with an earlier poster who said Ferrari had gone the wrong way somewhere though. I have a hunch they've looked at Mercedes having success at power circuits and gone too far that way.
