Just looking back, that's three scruffy qualifying sessions in a row for Hamilton. If he keeps that up and Bottas can keep this level up, I think he can do a Rosberg and beat him. Lets be clear, this championship is between Hamilton and Bottas now, and the WCC is already over.

Sets up a good race for Mercedes but looking at the wider picture for Formula One its a terrible result. Mercedes are leagues ahead right now and to be honest they develop at least as fast as the season progresses as Ferrari do if not faster so I do not see it changing throughout the year. The only way they will win this race is if something strange happens up front like a Mercedes failure or collision.

The thing that will probably be the most eventful tomorrow will be the inter team fights at Mercedes and Ferrari and the battle for the best of the rest. I think Max will be in the mix tomorrow maybe for a podium but certainly for a top 5.

Great to see Ricciardo doing so well and I think positions 6-12 will be a great battle.

On race pace stints, I'd put Max ahead of Seb, so it could be a pretty awful weekend for Ferrari. Looking through the S3 times, Ferrari could be in real trouble in Monaco as well

Didn't catch qualifying live today, but just watched it. Valterri Bottas is on fire so far this season. Brilliant first lap in Q3, untouchable. If he leads into the first corner it is a nailed-on win for him. Already shown he has that Scandinavian calm when leading out front.

I’m very impressed with his attitude and approach. People say Ocon is waiting in the wings, but I seriously doubt Ocon could get more out of that car in qualifying trim. Agree with Morini that winning a WDC also requires maximising points on bad weekends. That is the only area where Bottas hasn’t demonstrated his credentials so far, but only because he’s always at the front of the field. I’ve put a tenner on him for the WDC this year, he just looks like he wants it more than Lewis.

Ferrari have taken a wrong turn somewhere and probably before the season started. The car "looks" great on track, but it's not translating into lap time. Media frenzy during winter testing probably hasn't helped them either, they would be better focussing on a development program and not looking for headline times. I'm sick and tired of the sky F1 team talking Ferrari up on the basis of winter testing as it never, ever translates to in season results. Mercedes must be laughing into their schnapps as they always go under the radar and then do the business when it matters. Red Bull are in new engine partner transition, Ferrari are lucky on that front as I'm certain they would be the third team in pecking order otherwise.

If they held a winter WCC there would only be one winner. No prizes for that though.
