sorry for the poor link guys, if it's a hassle, but could be a great idea Smile

edit: I got the first link wrong that was just the build up, this is the full onboard, and made me realise that yes, despite the awesome tech of the new cars, we are missing the sound Sad

early days, for Liberty, but given the criticism, who would you rather have in charge?

Sooooo...

These are the rules and regs regarding engine supply, and number of each component allowed per car:

23.3a) Unless he drives for more than one team (see 23.3© below), and subject to the additions described below, each driver may use no more than engines (ICE), motor generator units-heat (MGU-H), 3 turbochargers (TC), 2 energy stores (ES), 2 control electronics (CE) and 2 motor generator units-kinetic (MGU-K) during a Championship season. With the consent of (and at the sole discretion of) the FIA, the numbers above will be increased by one for any driver using a power unit provided by a new power unit manufacturer (as defined in Appendix 9) taking part in their first Championship season.

Sooooo... yeah, good luck Honda and Renault I guess. I think we can all see the problems this will lead to, anyone who saw Lewis running the prototype 2018 engine will have seen the terrifying level everyone else has to aim for. The be clear, from the revs, that engine was NOT turned up. If that was the much vaunted 50% plus efficient engine then God have mercy on everyone elses souls, because no one is touching that thing unless they can seriously crank their units up and not fear burning them out. Sure Merc will crank theirs up too, but it would limit their advantage. I think with 3 units they're be cruising round comfortably, no problems carrying way more speed, while others burn through their units.

So, 3 unit limit is dumb, I think the entire paddock agrees on that. Next year the engine costs have been reduced significantly to customer teams, as Horner pointed out, the Renault units will cost nearly 40% less than they did when first introduced, so is further cost cutting needed? I don't think so, and I'd like to see the number of units rise to 5, and let the teams and drivers go racing a bit more. Thoughts?

the compromise is coming folks - but

Ross Brawn says Formula 1 chiefs are ready to address manufacturers' concerns about new engine proposals for 2021, but insists there is no going back from the push to get rid of the current turbo hybrid V6 power unit.

New Hybrid to old or historical - can't compare myself, but would love to know from more well informed, torque - revs - turbos, etc, or what do any believe to be the best F1 engine ever - I get that that's a bit vague, but any info would be appreciated Smile

Afternoon all,

Which is your favourite current F1 track, and why?
Which is your favourite historic F1 track, and why?
Lastly, if you could take modern F1 back to any previous track, or to a new venue - which would it be, and why?

For me, my favourite track from the current calendar Spa, it has everything - high speed corners, low speed corners, technical sections, balls-out sections, unpredictable weather, a long circuit where you're not always tripping over a Sauber and a bit of gradient. Finally it has Eau Rouge, although personally I'm just as excited about Pouhon and Blanchimont.

Of the historic ones, I'd my favourite has got to be Turkey. I must have logged thousands of laps around there in DTM cars on TOCA Race Driver against my best mate years ago, and the real-life F1 races there were typically just as exciting!

Ashamedly, even though I call myself a petrol-head, I only discovered Portimao a few weeks ago, and I am really loving that track. I think it would be great for F1, although some of the gradients might be a bit extreme.

Looking forward to hearing your inputs!

So, Liberty Media are saying that a number of manufacturers are interested in entering F1 if the engines / PUs change, so far we’ve heard about Porsche (Volkswagen Group), Aston Martin, Jaguar (with Cosworth), Lamborghini, Ford and Toyota. We know they also want to see 26 cars (currently that would mean 13 teams, an increase of 3). However, what price would we be willing to pay to attract them? If all 6 manufacturers came into the sport and we retained the current 4 manufacturers that would be ideal, that’d be a lot of works teams. However, losing Renault, Ferrari and Mercedes would be a big blow to the sport, so how would you handle the conundrum?
