Belgian Grand Prix weather forecast

Friday

Rain is forecast throughout Thursday meaning by the time the cars hit the track in practice at 1.30pm local time on Friday, putting down some rubber on the racing line will be a priority.

Even then, that may not happen, with rain also forecast throughout Friday and even thundery showers predicted for practice as well as qualifying later on in the evening at 5pm.

Temperatures will be unseasonably low too at just below 20 degrees Celsius, meaning any water on the track is unlikely to evaporate quickly if any dry spells emerge.

Saturday

Saturday is much the same as Friday, albeit with a small chance of sunny spells but rain is once again forecast to fall throughout the entire afternoon.

That includes the sprint shootout starting at midday, and also the sprint race at 4.30pm.

This is threatened by thundery showers once more yet the chances of rain do drop below 50 per cent. This being Spa though, that is likely to change very quickly throughout the week.

Sunday

The best of the weather - if you want to call it that - is set to feature on race day. Sunny intervals and rain showers are set to fall during the 3pm race but at this stage it is only expected to light - and certainly not race stopping like the infamous 2021 debacle that lasted two laps.

Given Spa's notorious micro-climate don't be surprised to find a situation where the top of the long Kemmel straight is soaked with rain, while on the otherside of the circuit the La Source hairpin is bone dry and under sunshine.

Hungarian Grand Prix weather forecast.

Friday

Right now, this is predicted to be by far the worst day of the weekend - at least if you love the sun. Temperatures clipping above 30 degrees Celsius feature throughout the week but once free practice one drops at 1.30pm local time it's all change.

Sunshine and clear skies may way for overcast clouds where a small chance of light rain is forecast throughout the session and through the entire afternoon.

This stretches into the second practice session from 5pm where the forecast becomes even worse with a 50/50 chance of rain including thundery showers.

Saturday

With a likely green track as a result of Friday's constant rain, conditions are expected to improve on Saturday with final practice at 12.30pm taking place under clear sunny warm skies where temperatures are set to continue into the high 30 degrees Celsius mark.

Qualifying at 4pm is largely expected to be the same, but overcast skies are set to feature just minutes after its 5pm conclusion that bring a small threat of showers.

Sunday

The weather currently looks settled for race day with no rain predicted and again temperatures clipping the 30 degree mark once it's lights out at 3pm local time.

The only difference that may concern drivers though is the evolution of the track. Overnight storms are expected on Saturday and this may leave the track in a green state or at the very least in a vastly different state of evolution compared to the circuit they qualifed on.

Can't believe we've gotten so close to the race and a thread has not yet been created... well here you go Smile

Ok so slightly off but on topic the 2024 Schedule has been published and it's got 24 races in it... though I presume similar to this year we may see one or two of those fall by the wayside.

So I was reading a few articles and people like Verstappen are now saying that the season is too long... too many races etc.  So whilst I presume he is doing his good turn by supporting his support team - I imagine he personally would not mind how many races there are.  Though saying that I was thinking that anyone that doesn't like how many races there are on the schedule should or could elect a stand-in for one or two of the races to give that relieve the driver in question and to give whomever stands in some much needed track time/exposure.  Any points or lack thereof stay with the car's main driver for the year... making the choice weather to race or take a race off up to the driver and whether they mind the possible loss of points.  Clearly in a close fought year... any driver in contention is not gonna elect to "take a race off" but those further down may do so.

So what do you think?  It doesn't give the team any relief but it would shut the drivers up.

Looks as if Silverstone this weekend is fine for Friday but as you might expect the weekend may have a couple of showers around.

Merc to bring some updates that they hope will help them - I hope it does to.  Don't think it will change who wins but here's hoping they can leapfrog Ferrari and assert themselves as the fastest Merc powered team again.  Not a good look being 3rd out of the 4.

From Papa On Canada GP Thread

Austrian Grand Prix weather forecast

Friday

The sole practice session will run from 1.30pm to 2.30pm local time and although it is predicted to remain dry that is far from certain.

Clouds are set to hover over the circuit and the chance of rain is expected to go up from 16 per cent to 26 per cent during the session, where light winds are also expected to feature, giving the cars a tail wind in the long run up the hill following turn one.

It is set to be all change for the qualifying session to decide the grid order on race day in the one hour from 5pm. Light showers are forecast from 3pm right through the evening but the chances of rain falling during the session are expected to decrease from 50 per cent to 34 per cent - leaving it all a lottery at this point when you factor that sunny spells are also expected to feature around this time.

Saturday

As the drivers head into Saturday looking to bag some points on sprint day, fans may instead be sprinting for cover from the rain.

Right when sprint qualifying stars at midday, there is a 50/50 chance of light showers along with a light wind that will be head onto the drivers down the start/finish straight.

Conditions only get worse throughout the afternoon and for the actual sprint race at 4.30pm where thundery showers are set to disrupt the race and conditions likely to worsen.

Sunday

But like in Canada, race day could be where the conditions are at their best from 3pm.

A couple of degrees warmer at 24 than Saturday's running, overcast skies are still set to feature but rain is not expected if not quite ruled out entirely with predictions of rain just below a one in three chance.

The wind is expected to turn again to a light breeze towards the south, meaning a headlong wind for the drivers as they exit turn one and race up towards the tight turn three to the right after the slight kink of turn two.

Aston Martin will bring an upgrade to the Canadian Grand Prix, but remains confident it is not falling behind rivals in Formula 1’s development war.

With its rivals having introduced major upgrades to their cars over the past two races, Aston Martin’s lack of performance could suggest that it has been overtaken in pace terms as it has been slow itself to introduce updates.

That situation comes after Alonso urged his squad to step up its introduction of upgrades if it was to maintain its position in regularly fighting for podiums.

Team principal Mike Krack says Alonso is right to put pressure on the team to deliver more, but insists plans are in place for improvements to come.

“He is right to ask us and push us for that,” said Krack. “There will be something coming in Canada. It will be a step.”

An interesting weekend hopefully.

Alpine are bullish about getting among the fight for the final podium positions behind Red Bull.

"I fully expect to be in front of Mercedes and with Ferrari at the next race," sporting director Alan Permane said, while also confirming another upgrade will be on the Alpine in Barcelona with these teams bringing updates..

"Ferrari will be introducing a substantial upgrade to their inconsistent SF23 car, having had to delay its introduction with the Emilia Romagna GP's cancellation"

"I hope that we will do a step forward in Barcelona but it won't be the end of the development for the car."

"Aston Martin will be introducing the second half of an upgrade that was initially due in Imola at the Spanish GP."

Aston Martin will be introducing the second half of an upgrade that was initially due in Imola at the Spanish GP.

The question is whether these updates will offset the advances Red Bull, Mercedes and Ferrari have made and see them move closer to the championship leaders or be fighting to get on the podium at all.

The big intrigue heading to Barcelona is how Mercedes' upgrades to their W14 will truly perform.

"Initially scheduled for the cancelled Emilia Romagna GP, Mercedes debuted their new bodywork, floor and front suspension in Monaco."

"Mercedes find themselves only a point behind Aston Martin in the battle for second in the constructors' championship despite appearing to have the fourth-fastest car on pure pace so far in 2023"

Formula 1 will produce television coverage of the Monaco Grand Prix for the first time this year, ending the local hosts’ control over the race, Motorsport Broadcasting has learnt.
Previously, the local station Tele Monte Carlo produced coverage of the blue-ribbon event, but now F1 will control the broadcasting aspects of the event, including the World Feed.
This change means that F1 will produce the World Feed for every race during a given season, which is the first time this has happened.
